November 17th, the PS3 hits home. It's going to be a do-or-die thing, and it's looking die right now.

I would have thought Sony would've waited till later to reveal the PS3 price, but I guess they wanted to ruin the whole week for themselves. Guess what? It's expensive. Damn expensive. Wow Sony, you're dead. Should I just shut up and give you the news? Okay.

PS3 with 20GB Hard Drive - $500
PS3 with 60GB Hard Drive - $600 freaking dollars

I know that since it costs around $1000 to make, $500-600 seems cheap, but ask yourself if you're willing to pay $600 for a console. I didn't think so. Gee, Sony, why'd you have to kill yourselves with Blu-Ray. Not only did you kill the PS3, but you killed your high-def DVD format too.
At least there's some good news in it for the PS3. The controller's been updated:
It now has "6 degrees of motion sensing movement". Yes, they stole from Nintendo. It's going to be like a dimmed down Wii controller. Could help them a bit. It's still the boomerang though. And I just can't get around that. Literally.
Also, they showed off a bunch of PS3 games with some great graphics, but they could have been prerendered. Can't get them off of the net just yet sadly. They introduced Gran Turismo for PS3, Need For Speed Carbon, and quite a few others that I'm very excited about. More on the games in a short while though.
Not that it matters as the PS3 is dead in the water with that heavy price tag.

I'm going to have to start saving up now... they're really gonna milk us for every penny on this one. I'll bet the games are gonna run $70 a piece too.

That's what I'm betting too. I'm sticking with 360 I think now, I love it and everything about it's cheaper. I wanted to get a PS3, but I don't see how with all that's going on.

Stunned. We all knew the games would look amazing, and that they'd be re-hashed sequels, but charging as much as a decent PC for a games console? What's the point in Blu-ray/HD without another extremely expensive addition of a HDTV? There are going to be some happy debt collectors around after xmas this year! Right now Microsoft must be sleeping soundly in seattle!

well being as this was linked to the timesonline ( a uk broad sheet )your bandwdith has just increesed 100 fold

the price has stund me, and thinking that i can get a 360 for that and micro$oft might drop the priceing to make it more of a incentive to not buy the ps3

Well, we all knew that it would cost a pretty penny, but who knew that it would cost $600 for the high end. I have a 360 and i just got a HDTV, which I am very happy with because it looks great and I love it, plus XBOX LIVE rocks. Sony has plans for an online component, but they wont be able to compete to XBOX LIVE, simply because Microsoft spent years and millions of dollars to perfect LIVE, and Sony thinks they can create one in a few months, it wont happen.

oh c'mon guys! we all know that ps3 is gonna come out best! yeah, it costs a bomb, but i mean, its worth evry penny of it! its double the power of the 360, but it aint double the price! and anyway, im gonna stick with ps. they're always groundbreakers, and frankly il still b able to play all my old games, as well as a load of new ones 2x as good as 360. SONY RULEZ!!!!

OKAY NAI,

first of all, look at the specs of both systems side by side and they are very comparable so check your facts before you state that the PS3 is 2X the power of the 360, neither one blows each other out of the water, but the 360 high end is 200 less than the ps3 high end. Oh by the way can you say Gears of War or Halo 3 ?????

Yes, Derek's right, the PS3 is more powerful, but not that much. I don't know if it'll be noticable enough to pay $200 more. I guess only time will tell. In the beginning they'll look the same more or less, because developers will both be learning the systems. We'll find out in about 2-2.5 years which is really more powerful.
